Uttar Bahini

Uttar Bahini is a significant ghat along the Bagmati River. The name “Uttar Bahini” literally translates to “North Flow” or “Northern Stream”, referring to the river’s flow direction at that point.

This ghat serves multiple purposes: it is a cremation site, a place for ritual bathing, and a spiritual space for worship and reflection. Unlike some of the more famous ghats like Pashupati Aryaghat, Uttar Bahini is quieter and less crowded, making it an intimate space for local devotees. The quieter atmosphere allows for meditation, prayer, and reflection on life and death. It emphasizes personal devotion rather than large public rituals. Families perform Shraddha rituals (offerings to ancestors) and pinda daan, especially during Pitru Paksha, the ancestral worship period.
