Shlesmantak Van

Shlesmatak Van is a sacred grove and ritual area located near the Bagmati River. Possibly derived from Sanskrit roots related to “Shlesh” (union, connection) and “Matak” (pond, grove, or sacred area), symbolizing a place where souls, ancestors, or devotees connect spiritually. Van – Means forest or grove, indicating a small natural or semi-natural sacred space.

Unlike the cremation ghats, Shlesmatak Van is more oriented toward meditation, ritual offerings, and spiritual retreat rather than active cremation. It is considered a peaceful sanctuary along the river, often used for ancestral rites and quiet contemplation.
