Ram Ghat lies on the banks of the sacred Bagmati River near the temple zone of Pashupatinath Temple. It forms part of the chain of ghats spread along the river, each used for different ritual and cremation purposes. The ghats around Pashupatinath have been used for centuries and evolved alongside the temple complex itself, which dates back over a thousand years. Ram Ghat forms part of Kathmandu’s long-standing tradition of riverbank cremation culture and sacred geography.
