This temple is said to have been constructed by Supuspdev,  a  Lichchhavi King who once ruled the Kathmandu Valley. It must have been rebuilt a number of times in the course of its development. The present temple of Pashupatinath was built in 1697 AD by King Bhupalendra Malla of Kantipur. Hundreds of temples and shrines surround the main temple. The temple’s architectural uniqueness is reflected in its golden gilded roofs, silver and golden gilded doors, brilliant wooden and metal carvings in the tympanum and the struts that can attract any individual.

Opening and closing hours :  All four gates of the main temple open before daybreak. A special Puja is performed at 9:30 in the morning everyday. At noon, the Abhisheka, the sprinkling of holy water over the heads of the devotees, is conducted. The gates are closed at 2 pm. They reopen for the Aarati in the evening at 6 in winter and at 7 in other seasons.
