The name Barundhara is connected to Baruna, one of the five faces of the central Shiva Lingam in the main temple, also called Sadyojata (Varuna). This face represents one of the elements of Lord Shiva, linking the water tap not only to water but also to the sacred symbolism of the temple.

Barundhara has served both as a place for water and as an important cultural and religious site for centuries. The larger Pashupatinath area has over 500 temples and shrines, making it one of the holiest Hindu places.

In recent years, there have been reports of missing statues and objects, including the three statues of Barundhara near the Bankali temple, showing the need to protect this important site.

Today, Barundhara continues to be an important part of the Pashupatinath temple area, reminding everyone of Kathmandu’s ancient heritage, while still serving visitors and worshippers with its sacred presence.
